Autumn
The photos below are all taken at St. Joseph's High School.
This photo was chosen because it embodies the first change experienced in the autumn season. The leaves on the trees begin to change colour and wilt away due to the change in weather. The image includes the three colours that leaves change to and how they wither away into dry crunchy leaves. The colour in the sky is a good contrast to the colour shown in the leaves. This image includes a shallow dept of field and I feel like this makes it into a good photo because it brings more focus to the changing leaves. The vibrance of the of the blue in the sky was increased to create a greater complimentary contrast between all the colours and the highlights and shadow were adjusted so that the sky would appear more luminous yet not overblown. Blacks were brought up to help control the increase in highlights in contribution with the shadows.
I chose the photo because I like the angle it was taken in the plethora of fallen leaves. Once again the effect of a shallow dept of field is created as the camera focuses on the leaves closer to the lens. This photo doesn't include all the different colours as much as the previous photo did; however, it does featured the two sides of the leaf and how one side is less vibrant then the other. Few adjustments were made to this photo; however, it does include a custom white balance, an increase of vibrance in the red, and an increase in shadows and highlights to differentiate the light coming from the sky with the shadows created on the ground.
I decided to use this photo because I liked the vibrance of the sky, which was also enhanced to created a greater contrast between the sky and the leaves left on the branches. I like how as gradient was shown in the sky going lighter as you move down the photo. The shadows cast by the different directions of the branches, which is why it was increased in create more interest in the photo. The original version of this photo included a light pole in the bottom right corner which was then removed to make the photo more pleasing to look at; as well as, to create the illusion of asymmetrical symmetry.
